Lets be honest. Kids and cleaning hardly ever go together. Getting kids to help out with cleaning task can feeling like a never-ending battle. Most kids would rather make the mess and leave it to someone else to pack away. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
My children like most children don’t like doing their cleaning tasks but I have found some get ways to get my kids up and motivated to get their jobs done.

These are my top five tips to get kids to clean.
1 ~ Kids Cleaning Kits
Kids love to have their own things no matter what their doing. That is why when it came to getting them involved in cleaning, I decided to make my kids their very own mini cleaning kits. This way they don’t have to ask me to use my big heavy bottles of cleaner or to borrow cleaning clothes. Now when its cleaning time they are able to go and get their own individual mini cleaning kits. They have more fun cleaning with their own cleaning kits and really enjoy using them.
2 ~ Make It Fun
Cleaning can be boring and the best way I found to keep my kids interested was to make it a game. When they are using their imagination they get a whole lot more done and have a great time doing it. Whether it is believing that are mummies little cleaning crew, fighting against the evil germ pirates, or playing house before a the tea party guest arrive, your children will love it. Kids love to have fun and play, so who said cleaning couldn’t be a game as well.
3 ~ Make It A Challenge
A little friendly competition goes never hurt anyone. That is why when we are doing a quick tidy session before meal times I like to make toy pick up a challenge. My kids have their own toys storage baskets they love to race to see who can pick up their toys the fastest. They must do it properly and they usually like to be timed while they do it. If your kids are different ages then give the younger ones a head start to even things up.
4 ~ Give Directions
Always remember that kids are kids. They will help if things are fun and they understand what they need to do. If you are going to give them five or more tasks at a time the odds are they are not going to remember everything. Give them clear and easy to remember directions to follow and they will get it done faster.
Instead of saying go clean your room. Say pick up and put your toys away. Or make your bed or put you clothes away. If the know what jobs they have to do then they know what is expected of them.
5 ~ Break It Up
Kids can lose focus very quickly. So it is a much break up their list of jobs over the space of the day. Not only do I find this effective but my kids are more focused to do their cleaning tasks properly when they know they have a couple of things to do then they can have some free time.
In my home I have three to four tidy times. These happen before meals and once before bed if needed. Scheduling these tidy times and making them part of my kids routine helps for them to start doing what needs to be done without being asked. It became a habit and a good habit for them to have.
This is my top tips to get kids up and helping with cleaning the home. Some kids are natural-born helpers while others need a bit more patience. Getting your kids helping you to clean the home can be both fun and rewarding. Not only while they learn some life skills but you also have another activity where you can spend time with your kids.
