Last year our family started a new tradition. We did our first Christmas eve gift boxes for the kids. We usually sit down every year and watch a movie on Christmas eve as a family before the kids wonder off to bed. Last year I found the Christmas Box idea on Pinterest and thought it would add something special to our Christmas Eve movie night.
It was great to see the kids excitement as they opened up their Christmas eve gift boxes. That is why this year we are doing it again but I am taking it a step further. This year I am adding mum and dad gift boxes as well. That way every member of the family will have their own gift box to enjoy.
I thought I would share with you what I put our gift boxes. That way if you want to start this tradition to you have a starting point of what you might put in your own Christmas Eve Gift Boxes.
Children Christmas Boxes
Pajama’s
We like to give our children new pajamas in their boxes. They can be themed for Christmas or just in a character design your children are into. We choose not to do Christmas pajamas because then the kids will get wear out them, then one or two weeks around Christmas.
A Book
Many people like to place a Christmas Book in the gift box. That way you will be able to sit down with your child and read the book together before bed. Once again for me I like to buy my children story books that they are into rather then in the Christmas theme. That way my children will read the book more then just around the Christmas Holidays.
A Snack
Putting a snack in the Christmas Eve gift box means that I don’t have to make one while the kids are watching the Christmas eve movie. They already have one in their gift box ready to be eaten. The snack could be a pack of chips, some cookies, popcorn, pretzels or anything you like.
A drink
In Australia around Christmas time it is far to hot to be putting a pack of hot chocolate drink in the Christmas Eve box. So instead I like to put either a juice box or a small UHT flavored milk box. You could even make a votchuer for a milk shake if you want to.
Other idea
There are a lot more items you could include in the children’s gift box. It really depends on you budget and the size box you have to fill. Listed below are a few not ideas you could inclued:
~ A soft toy
~ A cup
~ A plate
~ A Christmas cracker
~ A colouring set
Dad Christmas Box
Pajamas
If your partner wears pajamas then put some in for him to wear. If your partner is like mine and can’t stand Pjamas. You could always put a t-shirt and some shorts in there. Or even some new jocks.
Bottle of Alcohol
It is the season to celebrate, so if your partner likes a quite drink include a stubby of his favorite beer. In the case of my partner I have purchased him a bottle of his favorite spirits. So he will be getting a bottle of Jack Daniels in his gift box. Alternatively if your partner doesn’t drink you can include a bottle of his favorite soft drink.
Stubby Holder
Whether your partner is like a drink of alcohol or not. including a new stubby holder will insure whatever he drinks will remain cold this Christmas. You can chose from a wide range of stubby holder designs. You can even get a family portrait print on one if you have time.
A Snack
You don’t have to put one snack in the box either. It could be a pack of salted nuts or a tin of Pringles. It could be his favorite chocolate bar or even all three. My theory is the more snacks for him the better. Then he will be less likely to pinch the snacks out of your gift box.
A Mug
As a little something extra place a coffee cup in his gift box. You can get novelty mugs from just about anywhere. It could be a funny Christmas mug or just one in a theme he likes. You could even find a Dad mug somewhere this time of year.
Other Ideas
So if your partner is hard to buy for them try and think about what he is into. Once again what goes in the box depends on box size and budget. Here are some other ideas:

Mum Christmas Box
Pajamas
Just like all the other gift boxes, Pajamas is the first thing for a mum gift box. You can get some nice pajamas that you have been wanting for a while and not feel guilty for it. It is for Christmas movie night after all.
Coffee travel mug
A travel mug is great for busy mum’s. So pick a nice one and put it in the gift box. You can never have to many travel mugs.
A pack of TimTams
Who doesn’t love a pack of yummy tim take while watching a movie? Well if you don’t that is ok just pick a snack or two that you would eat while watching the Christmas movie.
A drink
Now you get to chose a drink just for you. It could be a bottle of wine or a can of soft drink. You might even like to put a pack of instant coffee satchel in your gift box.
An Organiser
Putting a nice organiser in your gift box will make sure you are ready for the new year. You will also be able to get the one you want before they sell out.
Other Ideas
This is your Christmas gift box and you can put what ever you like in it. You can even turn it into a pamper Christmas Box if you want to. Here are some more ideas if what to put in the mum Christmas gift box:

I hope you have found these ideas helpful. This only a new tradition for my family and it is one that we enjoy. Putting on new pajamas and snuggling up on the coach with kids in Christmas eve is a great way to spend time together. Everything needed for m9vie night is right there in the gift boxes. Last year the kids faces light up with excitement as they opened their bpxes. I can not wait to do it again this year.
