My Top 5 Secrets To Get More Done

October 17, 2017

As most of you would know by now. I am a mother to four children and for the last two months a carer to another. Yes you heard right I have five children in my care at the moment. Life is super crazy right now but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I am a stay at home mum, write on this blog and am a artist as well being a stay at home mum. This means I also maintain my house to a somewhat clean and orderly. I am always being asked how I stay motivated to get so much done and not being running late everyday.

Well let me tell you, it is not easy and I honestly don’t get everything I need to, done on a daily bases. I spend a lot of my running around after my kids, taking them to sports activities and other appointments. But I have found a system that works for me and some little ways that help out me out a lot. It helps me to stay very productive in small amounts of time. This allows me to spend more time just being a mum.

So here are My top 5 secrets to get more done.

1 ~ Set Goals

Goal setting is not just about setting long term goals. It is about discovering what steps you need to take to get to those goals. So for me I want to write and edit a set amount of blog post each week. As well as get a set number of artwork completed each month or week. By knowing what I want to achieve, I can then work out what I need to get done each day. This is because I know when I have time to do it.

I can break up my goals into real steps that I can do. If I need certain paint to finish an artwork I can plan to stop at the suppliers on my way home to or from tgrocery shopping. These realistic steps also allows me to work out what steps I need to do each day to get to the end result. It helps me to stay motivated.

2 ~ Challenge

What I mean by giving yourself a challenge is to set yourself one task that you want to complete each day. It must be a realistic task that is achievable. Like organizing the utensil draw or cleaning the cutlery draw. Make the daily challenge something that is small and manageable. If you need some inspiration why not head over to The Secrets Of A Busy Mum Facebook page and give it a like. I share daily tasks that you can use as inspiration for your challenges.

3 ~ Have A Daily To Daily To-Do List

Whether you jot it down on a scrap piece of paper or use fancy stationary. Having a daily to-do list is a must have when you are trying to get the most out of everyday. The key is not just make a list but to also priorities the tasks on that list. Don’t make the to-do list to overwhelming or crazy un-achievable. The point is to make it do-able so you can tick the tasks off as your complete them. If you are like me, you will find it so motivating to tick task off and it will make you want to keeping going.

Another thing you want to do when prioritizing your to-do list is do most crappiest tasks first, because then the rest of the tasks wont be as bad. By having a to-do list you will feel more motivated to get things done. Even if you don’t get everything done at least you can see what you have achieved on your list.

4 ~ Have A Morning Routine

Having a great morning routine can set the tone for the rest of the day. That is why having a good routine in place is so important. I try most mornings to wake up at least half an hour before my kids and have some time to get myself ready for the day. I feel more happy, energized and prepared to take on the day before my kids even open their eyes. Then when the kids wake up I can keep that smooth flow going. Having a good routine in the morning will help everyone to have a good morning. It will be less stressful, more calming and it doesn’t have to be set in stone.

5 ~ Give Yourself Some Lee-way

By this I mean that not everything will go right everyday. And that is perfectly OK, things can and will go wrong, plans change and schedules change. Nothing in life is perfect and you need to be flexible and adapt. You might wake up later then you want to or you just don’t get as much done as you would like to. Just give yourself some grace and understand that life happens. The good, the bad and the what the hell just happened. Stuff just goes wrong and all you need to do is learn how to deal with it and not let it upset you motivation for the rest of the day.

Those are my top 5 secrets to getting more done in less time. I hope that you are able to take something away from my tips. Let me know what little secrets you have up your sleeve that helps you get the most out of your day.
